今日のフレーズのポイントは、「tinker with」です。
「tinker with」【動詞】： 〜に手直しを加える。〜をいじくる。

英英辞典でも「tinker」の意味を調べてみましょう。
to make small changes to something, especially in an attempt to repair or improve it:
He spends every weekend tinkering (around) with his car.
（彼は毎週末、車をいじくっている。）
I wish the government would stop tinkering with the health service.
（政府が医療サービスに手直しを加えることをやめてくれたらなぁ。）参照： Cambridge Dictionary
何かを修理しようとしたり、改善しようとしたりして、何か小さな変化を加えることを指すんですね。
イギリス人の友人にも「tinker with」の意味について確認したところ、
When you are spending time trying to improve something, repair something. Lots of little changes.
（何かを改善しようとしたり、修理しようとしたりして時間を使うこと。たくさんの小さい変更をすること。）
と教えてくれました。
なお、「tinker with」は、今日のフレーズや「やりとりイメージ」で取り上げたように、企画や提案、医療サービスなどの「ソフト」に手を加える、いじくるときにも使いますが、車、バイクといった「ハード」をいじくるときにも使います。
イギリス人も「tinker with」の使い方について、追加でこのように言っていました。

（たいていは女性より男性が「tinker」する。）Physical word. Basically for machine, something physical something 3D.

このハード（物理的なもの）にたいして「tinker」を使うときの例文はこのような感じです。
