イギリス人に「You’re preaching to to the converted.」の意味を確認したところ、
=I already agree.
=You don’t have to try to convince me because I already think the same as you.

とのこと。
つまり、相手が何かについて自分を説得しようとしてきているけど、自分はもうその相手と同じ考え・思いだよって言いたいとき、今日のフレーズが使えるんですね。
「preach」は「説教・伝道する」、「converted」は「改宗者」なので、「preach to the converted」は、「もうすでにその宗教に改宗している人に対して、改宗するように説得している」という意味合いなんですね。
今日のやりとりイメージ以外でも、例えば、仕事において誰かが新しいシステムを入れることを説得しようとしてきた際、自分もすでに新しいシステム導入に賛成しているとき、
「Yeah you’re preaching to the converted.」
と言うことができます。
このときの、「Yeah you’re preaching to the converted.」＝「I already agree with you to get a new system.」という意味になります。
