イギリス人にも意味を確認したところ、
=Not share/show what you're really thinking about something
とのこと。
つまり、「何を考えいているか共有しない様子」を指すんですね。
「Naturally secretive, cautious な人」（自分の考えを隠したがる、注意深い人）です。
まさに「トランプとかのカードゲームをしているときに、（他人に見えないように）自分のカードを自分の胸の近くに持ってきている」、そんなイメージなのでしょう。
