今日のフレーズのポイントは「long in the tooth」です。
「to be long in the tooth」： もう年だ、何かをするには年を取りすぎている、年老いている
英英辞典でも「to be long in the tooth」の意味を調べてみましょう。
to be old, often too old to do something:
He's a little long in the tooth to be wearing shorts, don't you think?

イギリス人にも「to be long in the tooth」の意味を確認したところ、
=Be quite old (a bit unkind)
とのこと。
つまり、「He is long in the tooth.」は、
=He is rather old.
=He is quite old.
=He is a bit old.
=He is old.
と同じ意味になるんですね。
ところで、なぜ「to be long in the tooth」で「年をとった」という意味になるのでしょうか？
由来は馬の歯のようです。
馬は歯で年齢を判断できるくらい、年をとると歯茎が後退して、歯が長く見えるのです。
そこから、年をとった＝長い歯（long in the tooth）が生まれたのだそう。
ちなみに、今日のフレーズは、基本的には「Third person singular」（三人称単数）、つまり、「He」や「She」を主語で使うことが多いです。
ただ、自分に対しても使うことができます。

（年を感じる。）
なお、今日のフレーズは、口語で使われ、ほんの少し失礼な表現です。
ダイレクトに「He is old.」（彼は年をとった。）と言うよりは、間接的なので、まだマシですが、それでも少し失礼な響きがあることに変わりはありません。
なので、使い方には気をつけましょう。
また、使用頻度はそこまで高くありませんが、イギリス人なら誰でも知っている一般的な表現で、「Good to know」（知っていると役に立つ）な一言でもあります。
