2回目のロックダウン
So I heard that England has gone back into lockdown again. It's early days but how are things there?
イングランドが再びロックダウンになったって聞いたよ。まだ始まったばかりだけど、現地の状況はどう？
Yeah, I thought they were pretty much the same as the first lockdown until I went for a walk yesterday to my local shops, looking for a birthday card.
そうだね、昨日近所のお店にバースデーカードを買いに出かけるまでは、1回目のロックダウンとほとんど変わらないと思ってたんだ。
And I couldn't find one. In theory, before lockdown, loads of shops would have been selling them.
でも、バースデーカードが全く見つからなかったんだ。普通だったら、つまり、ロックダウンの前は、たくさんのお店が営業していて、そこで簡単に手に入るのに。
But I went from shop to shop, and every single one was closed.
The only ones that are still open are essential shops, so places that sell food, and chemists, for medicine for example.
お店を探して歩き回ったけど、どの店も閉まってたんだ。
唯一、営業していたお店は、生活必需品を売っているお店だけだったよ。食料品や医薬品を扱っている店しか営業してないんだよ。
So pubs, restaurants, etc are closed. And it was a very sad experience, there were lots of people there but basically most of the shops were closed.
つまり、パブやレストランなどは全部閉まってたんだ。すごい悲しいかったよ。たくさんの人がいるのに、多くの店が閉じていたから。
1回目のロックダウンとの違いは？
It sounds a lot like the first lockdown.
1回目のロックダウンとあまり変わらない感じだけど。
Yeah, a lot is the same but the main difference is that this time around the schools, colleges, universities are still open.
そうだね、ほとんど同じだね。でも、主な違いは、今回のロックダウンでは、学校や大学は開いているんだ。
医療機関の状況は？
So how is the NHS coping?
医療機関はどんな状況？
Yeah, that's another difference. Obviously we're very mindful of not putting too much pressure on the NHS but the big difference this time is that planned operations at the moment are still going ahead.
実は、医療機関についても、1回目のロックダウンと今回で違うことの一つだよ。医療機関で働く人へ過度のプレッシャーを与えないようにしているんだけど、大きな違いは、今回のロックダウンでは、予定していた手術をちゃんと実施しているんだよ。
So for example, my mum, she had a planned operation last week that until the day itself we thought might get canceled, it might get canceled But no, it went ahead and my experience there and hers as well was that the staff were lovely.
例えば、私の母は、先週手術を予定していたんだけど、手術の当日になるまで手術自体がキャンセルになるかもって思ってたんだ。でも実際は、手術は行われたんだ。それに、医療機関のスタッフの対応は素晴らしかったんだよ。
They were very supportive, very kind and didn't seem that stressed, or they didn't show it.
So we're very relieved that the planed operations are still going ahead, and I'm sure many other people are too.
医療機関のスタッフはとても協力的で、親切で、そこまでストレスを受けているように見えなかったよ。彼らがストレスを表に出していなかっただけかもしれないけどね。予定していた手術ができて、とてもほっとしたんだ。私の母だけでなく、別の人も同じだったと思うよ。
ロンドンの人はロックダウンをどう感じてる？
So how are people feeling about this second lockdown?
ロンドンに住んでいる人は、この2回目のロックダウンのことをどう感じているの？
I think most people are resigned to the fact, they think it's unavoidable. But everyone is worried about Christmas.
多くの人が事実を受け入れていると思うよ。避けられないよねって。でも、みんなクリスマスについて心配してるんだ。
So in theory, this is a one month lockdown, which should finish before Christmas, but the concern is will it be or not because Christmas, as you may know is very important time for families to get together.
つまり、今回は1ヵ月間のロックダウンで、クリスマス前には終わることになってるんだけど、心配は予定通りクリスマス前に終わるかってことなんだ。なぜならクリスマスは、イギリス人にとって、家族が集まるとても大事なイベントだから。
And if they can't do that it's going to be a really big impact on everyone's mental health.
もし、クリスマスまでロックダウンが続いたら、イギリス人のメンタルヘルスに、とても大きな影響を与えるんじゃないかな。
Gosh yes, I can understand why people are feeling that way. I really hope that the lockdown will be over by Christmas. So thank you, and stay safe.
